Is coffee just a familiar vehicle for cannabis consumption or is there something more to it?

From its reputation as a taboo herb that the hippie crowd smoked in college to a socially–acceptable add-on to your favorite barista drink, cannabis has completely rebranded itself. As cannaphobia is diminishing, people are becoming more comfortable with the idea of using cannabis products in everyday life.

What better place to start than coffee, the sacred bean juice that America runs on! After all, caffeine is the most widely consumed psychotropic compound around the globe. And, cannabis — though not available in cafes worldwide, yet — ranks fourth.
Why not combine two plant products, coffee and cannabis, that boast mind-altering substances, caffeine and cannabinoids, respectively? Is coffee just a familiar vehicle for cannabis consumption or is there something more to it? Do the seemingly opposite effects of each cancel one another out? Well, not exactly. Science is always a bit more complicated.

Let’s examine how caffeine works its magic to rev us up. Essentially, it’s all about adenosine, a neuromodulator, whose primary purpose is to promote sleep. Caffeine functions as an antagonist to the adenosine receptors.

What are the traits of an average Millennial?

First of all, they are tech-savvy persons who use social networks and other digital tools to discover new things, concepts, and trends. They communicate and learn quickly, which makes them more flexible and prone to changes than older generations.

Cannabis doesn’t cause a hangover

The vast majority of Millennials prefer marijuana over alcohol because it doesn’t cause a hangover.

Weed helps them relax

Very often when an individual who feels stressed out is going to check out and test cannabis products.

Cannabis legalization allows authorities to focus on other crimes

We already mentioned that the millennial generation is prone to nurturing and promoting certain goals and values.

Cannabis is a good investment opportunity

Millennials are not only cannabis consumers but also investors.

What Slows Down the Cannabis Industry?

The cannabis industry is obviously experiencing a breakthrough, but there are a few obstacles it still needs to overcome in order to achieve an even biggest impact on potential consumers worldwide.

What do you think about recreational marijuana consumption? Do you agree with the Millennials who want to see it fully legalized? Make sure to share your opinion with us – we would love to see how you perceive the growing popularity of cannabis products on the millennial cohort.Last August, as Dr Suzi Gage was writing her book, the Office for National Statistics published its data on drug deaths. Worryingly, the figures for England and Wales showed a 16 per cent rise in deaths from drug poisoning in 2018. While it didn’t look like the use of drugs was rising, deaths from drugs were. Some blamed cuts to treatment services. Dr Gage felt that something didn’t seem quite right. «I wondered whether people didn’t have enough information and so were putting themselves at more risk than they needed to,» she tells me over the phone. Fortunately the book that Dr Gage, a psychologist and epidemiologist at the University of Liverpool, was working on went quite a long way to addressing this problem. Say Why to Drugs is an authoritative guide to drugs and why people choose to get high.

Creating the perfect conditions for cultivation

Many would point towards cultivation as an important factor in the production of high-quality medicinal cannabis.

In order for medical cannabis to thrive, certain environmental conditions are required for optimal growth; these include overall air quality, genetics, adequate light, temperature, humidity, soil and water quality.

Cannabinoid research

However, producing the highest quality medicinal cannabis doesn’t stop at the growing stage. Indeed, given the vast array of potential health benefits, experts are always in the process of conducting new studies into the cannabis plant itself, so that manufacturers and health professionals alike can better understand its properties.

Formulation technologies and innovations

Increasingly, formulation technologies, which act as a bridge between the active components and the finished products , are playing an important role in the development of cannabinoid products.

Innovations

Already, expertise surrounding different formulation technologies have resulted in some exciting innovations. For example, the Symtomax CBD oral tab, which is built on a thin film and adheres to the inside of the cheek. The proprietary technology releases cannabinoids in a controlled, timed manner through the lining of the mouth. Oral Tab can be developed to release doses at different times, so that this method is a practical option for both those needing an instant dose, and those requiring a slower release, over a longer timeframe. The flexibility of time release is therefore improved, as is the quantity of CBD available to enter the blood stream, therefore contributing to better efficiency and systemic absorption rate than any other delivery methods available at present.

All in all, although medicinal cannabis is still a young industry in the western world, and naturally, there is still much research to be done in order to dispel pre-existing taboos and prove its efficacy, there is a lot to be said for its increasing popularity. I look forward to seeing how the industry, and indeed the products, advance over the coming years.

Paul Segal is the Chairman & co-founder of Symtomax. Symtomax have been approved by Infarmed to start the development of Europe’s largest medical cannabis facility.

The Study of Alzate

In 18th century, a Mexican scientist and priest, Alzate, studied the healing effects of the controversial plant.

Cannabis Really A TABOO Topic?

Society has always viewed Cannabis as a destructive and even a lethal substance. It is true that cannabis is a highly addictive drug and its overuse can lead to serious drug addiction.

Cannabis & COVID-19

COVID-19 struck the world in November 2019 and since then the world is facing a major crisis. Coronavirus started spreading globally in March 2020 and has not stopped since. It reached the global peak in June, 2020 affecting more than 12 million people. Around 530,000 people lost the battle of their lives to the global pandemic. Countries are out of policies to implement. Governments are facing the trickiest times of their rule. They are torn between the options of opening the country for routine businesses and impementing lockdowns.

In these trying times, Cannabis found another utility. Cannabis has proved to improve the health of COVID-19 patients and prevent Coronavirus. The University of Lethbridge in Alberta, Canada, found that certain Cannabis sativa extracts can be used in treatments to prevent infection with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Cannabis sativa extracts have an effect on the expression of ACE2 and TMPRSS2. These are the proteins which act as an entry point for the virus.

Cannabidiol , major component of cannabis, has amazing anit-inflammatory properties that can treat breathing problems.

TABOO STATUS

Anutin said it would be «a win-win situation for the Thai people because they will grow the plant and it will benefit the economy».

Marijuana enthusiasts say cannabis farming will take time to develop in Thailand.

«It’s not that easy,» said Chokwan Kitty Chopaka, spokeswoman for Highland Network, a Thai group that promotes knowledge about cannabis.

She said Thai cannabis would be competing with products grown in some U.S. states and Canada where it is already legal for recreational use.

«There’s already a market out there and they are a lot better at it than we are,» she said.

Thais used marijuana in traditional medicine and in cooking for centuries before it was banned in 1934.

Canopy Growth

Although Cronos Group became the very first marijuana stock to uplist in late February 2018, Canopy Growth appeared to be on its way to beating Cronos to the punch by months.

Aurora Cannabis

Aurora Cannabis was the next pot stock to make the move, having uplisted to the NYSE this past October. Aurora is either the second- or third-largest marijuana stock by market cap, depending on its constant pirouette with Tilray that sees the two companies exchanging the No.

Aphria

Not long after Aurora made the move to the NYSE, Aphria followed suit. Its transfer from the over-the-counter exchange became official in early November.

Uplisting made a lot of sense for Aphria in its effort to attract institutional and long-term investors.

HEXO

The most recent pot stock to have made the move to the NYSE is Quebec-based grower HEXO .

Sporting a little north of a $1 billion market cap, HEXO may wind up as a top-10 cannabis grower when all is said and done.

Innovative Industrial Properties

Last but not least, marijuana-based real estate investment trust Innovative Industrial Properties actually went the initial public offering route on the NYSE all the way back on Dec. 1, 2016. That makes it the most tenured of all pure-play pot stocks on the NYSE.

Following this past Friday’s announcement that the company was acquiring 43,000 square feet of industrial space in Sacramento, California, Innovative Industrial Properties now has a dozen owned real estate assets spanning 10 states. These «assets» are predominantly cannabis grow farms, although it does have processing facilities in its portfolio as well.

Get your team aligned around an internal policy.

Our office culture has always encouraged openness and mutual respect. This applies to everything from sharing weekend plans to voicing personal or professional challenges. As legalization approached, I knew we needed to talk about what that would mean for our workplace. Ahead of the laws changing, we held a town hall meeting to test the waters around cannabis tolerance in our office.

Set a pot protocol for dealing with customers and prospects.

Of course, as a millennial CEO, I realize my attitude around weed at work is likely more lax than older generations, and the tech industry tends to be more accepting of unorthodox policies than more conservative sectors.

As ecommerce consultants, what happens in our office isn’t necessarily anyone else’s business, as long as we’re acting legally and ethically. Still, I know our stance on cannabis has the potential to affect client relationships. We’re a digital company that works across borders and the varied, often vague, laws surrounding cannabis in different jurisdictions require an abundance of caution.

Cannabis remains illegal in most U.S. states, as well as federally, and there have been cases of cannabis professionals in Canada being banned from crossing the border.

NEW YORK — It’s showing up in everything from skin creams to bath balms to dog treats — an elixir that can supposedly reduce anxiety and help you sleep.

Domestic diva Martha Stewart is working with Canada’s Canopy Growth Corp. to develop new CBD products. Simon Property Group, the nation’s largest mall owner, has hooked up with a cannabis goods maker to open roughly 100 kiosks at its U.S. malls by mid-summer.

Even high-end retailers are getting in on the action, charging anywhere from $12 to $150 an ounce. Barneys New York has opened a shop in Beverly Hills, California, that sells CBD-infused creams along with hand blown glass bongs and other accessories, while Neiman Marcus is now offering an array of CBD-infused beauty products from balms, lotions soaps and masks in five of its stores.

But the farm bill gave the FDA authority over the food supply and the agency recently warned that it’s illegal to add CBD or THC — the compound that gives marijuana its high — to human or animal food and beverages and transport it over state lines.

The «rise of the derivatives» puts CBD on a pedestal

But you’d be mistaken if you thought that the marijuana movement was all about dried cannabis flower. While that might have been the case for your parents or grandparents, it isn’t anymore. Nowadays, derivative products, such as oils, vapes, edibles, concentrates, topicals, sublingual sprays, and cannabis-infused beverages, are all the rage.

With CBD sales set to soar, these surprising companies are now on board

Just how big of an opportunity is CBD? Well, the Brightfield Group has forecast a compound annual growth rate of 147% for global CBD sales between 2018 and 2022.

Designer Brands

Formerly known as DSW, footwear and accessories retailer Designer Brands turned heads in January when it announced a deal to carry CBD-rich topical creams, muscle balms, and body lotions with Green Growth Brands .

Urban Outfitters

A little more than two weeks ago, U.S.-focused vertically integrated dispensary operator iAnthus Capital Holdings announced that CBD For Life, a brand that it agreed to acquire in late March 2019, had struck a deal with Urban Outfitters to carry its products in six initial locations , as well as on its e-commerce platform.

Neiman Marcus

Privately held luxury retailer Neiman Marcus announced in mid-January, just about a week before Designer Brands made its deal with Green Growth Brands, that it would be carrying an assortment of CBD products at five of its locations, as well as online.

Ulta Beauty

Last, but not least, cosmetics giant Ulta Beauty announced in mid-March plans to carry its first-ever CBD skin-care brand. Ulta chose to carry five products from Cannuka, which blends CBD with manuka, a type of honey that’s sourced from bees that pollinate Manuka trees. All told, Ulta is carrying these CBD products ranging from $9 to $58 online and in all of its stores, save for three states where CBD laws remain strict, even following the passage of the Farm Bill in December.

As I said, this isn’t your parents’ or grandparents’ marijuana industry any longer. No one would suggest we study the Bible while on drugs.

What does the Bible say about drugs?

It’s naïve to think that there are Bible passages about every drug that comes out. So what we have to do is we have to search the Scriptures with an attitude of humility.

We’re also asking specific 21st-century questions: «when to use cannabis, when to use ecstasy. Is it right? Is it wrong? Should it be legal? Is it illegal?» And we’re asking those kinds of questions directly into the Scripture, which is not really prepared to answer those questions in the way that we want to pose them.

Ecstasy . Recently, ecstasy has presented itself as a treatment for anxiety disorders, and especially Post Traumatic Stress Disorder . PTSD is a mental health disorder that is very intractable in many individuals.

Does the opioid crisis have anything to offer this conversation?

People didn’t think twice about whether opiates were dangerous or not because their doctors gave them to them.

How do pastors and ministry leaders address this rapidly shifting cultural landscape?

We need to have a discussion as a Christian community to get greater clarity on these issues.

How should a person begin to grow in biblical wisdom as they face decisions about new drugs in the near future?

Decisions like these have to be done in communities that value searching the Scriptures to understand what Christlikeness looks like, to discover the principles that should govern what a faithful Christian life looks like—going it alone is not a good idea.

A: There is this debate in the advocacy community and in a variety of policy circles about whether it is proper to use the word marijuana. The root of marijuana, and I talk a little bit about it in the book, has a racist past. For decades in this country and before the United States was a country the plant was called cannabis. And around the turn of the 20th century people who wanted to use the plant to vilify … groups and in this case Mexican immigrants realized that calling cannabis marijuana sounded more exotic and scarier and was a way to make this a Mexican drug and a way to turn people against other people. And so in the book I call it marijuana because that’s by far and away the most commonly used term for it but in common parlance I tend to use cannabis for those reasons.
