Canada’s contractor: Unending corruption

September 23, 2020

He said, «Talking is the solution to combat such strong emotions. Talking it out to anyone. My experience tells me that, in our society talking about such subjects is still a taboo, you’re considered weaker. If there’s a man who goes up to his family and says that I’m depressed and I have issues, the people consider it as a Mental Issue. He is called mad. We still look at these issues from the same lens. The pace at which we’re progressing is extremely slow and unfortunate. Let’s face it».

Elaborating on how it is everyone’s personal struggle, he added, «I’m not really qualified or equipped enough to tell people what to do or what not to do, but sharing your load by beginning to talk about it, is the solution. You can talk to a stranger also, as most of the incredible conversations happen with strangers. Life is extremely precious. I recently lost a friend last week , we all heard about him. We just need to talk and get things out of our system. There is always sunrise after night,»

Vikrant will be seen in Chhapaak alongside Deepika Padukone and is directed by Meghna Gulzar. Based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, the film is set to hit the screens on January 10, 2020.

Constable Michelle Vincent says that ‘there’s no way that a normal human being exposed to the traumatic incidents that we’re exposed to can go without that mental-health support.

Discussing Aid in Dying

For several years, Rehm, 83, has crisscrossed the country, speaking to the terminally ill and their families, as well as advocates and opponents of medical aid in dying.

The medical aid-in-dying movement for the terminally ill — some call it death with dignity —began in Oregon in 1994.

Changing Minds on Medical Aid in Dying

More than a dozen other states are considering such a law, including Maryland, where Rehm testified last year in support of medical aid in dying.

The Core Conflict

Dr. Lonnie Shavelson, a former emergency room doctor who founded Bay Area End of Life Options in Calfornia, distilled the complex debate surrounding medical aid in dying, to a phrase, included in Rehm’s book: «You’ve got the ethic of autonomy against the ethic of maintaining life».

I hadn’t even told my parents about my husband’s addiction. When he died by suicide, I decided to tell the world If I wanted to reach out to educate others, I had to be honest. But that option involved blowing my life up

Several years ago, I was sitting in a living room with my husband Rob, sharing one last cup of tea before I was to drive him to a psychiatric hospital. Rob had a black eye, from where he had fallen down drunk, hitting his head on the knob of a cupboard.

Active Euthanasia refers to the deliberate act of ending the life of a terminally ill or incurable patient through the administration of a legal drug or injection by the physician.

Euthanasia in India: The Aruna Shanbaug Case and the Common Cause Judgement

The case of Aruna Shanbaug has been quite instrumental in changing the euthanasia laws in India. Ms. Aruna Ramchandra Shanbaug was an Indian nurse who in 1973, was sexually assaulted by a ward boy in the hospital as a result of which she went into a vegetative state.

Euthanasia- a good or a bad thing?

The proponents of Euthanasia argue that allowing an incurable patient to die will alleviate the constant pain and suffering that one has to go through when in the vegetative state.

Benefits of recognising Living Will

Recognition of Living will indeed have some good impact.

Concluding Remarks

In the course of this article, we tried to explain with clarity the concepts of euthanasia as well as ‘living will’. We listed out the arguments of both the proponents as well as the opponents of euthanasia and also mentioned how the ‘living will’ is going to have a positive impact.

The first is the increasing use of social media. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and all the other networks are turned into window dressing for a »fake« happiness. The door to the outside, all of them are successful, well-married, and have the best kids in the world. But we do know that the door to the inside, this is not true. This behavior is modern-day, more and more, the generator of anxiety and depression, are often difficult to overcome.

Suicide prevention hotlines

Help is always available.

By Lokesh Mansukhani

As estimated by WHO, one in four people across the world are affected by mental disorders at some point in their lives. However depression is single largest contributor to global disability and at its worst, can lead to suicide. Disturbingly, over 800,000 people die due to suicide every year.

Specifically in India, the National Mental Health Survey reveals that about 15% Indians need active intervention for multiple mental health issues and one in 20 Indians suffers from depression. The average suicide rate in India is 10.9 for every lakh people and the majority of people who commit suicide are below 44 years of age. Are we well equipped to address this issue?

Christopher has also been described as an amazing father to his eight-year-old daughter and four-year-old son. And a newly discovered passion of his was rollercoasters.

Sammie said he’d often go on trips to Thorpe Park, and they had planned a trip to Alton Towers at the end of July but Christopher died before they were able to go.

Due to the coronavirus, the last time Sammie was able to see her brother was prior to lockdown.

The Man with the Iron Neck invites the audience to reflect on what is worth living for when faced with pain and trauma, both personal and inherited. The work was met with critical acclaim when it premiered at Brisbane festival last year, and its themes have only become more urgent: in the first weeks of 2019, five Aboriginal girls under the age of 15 took their own lives, with a sixth taken to hospital after a suspected suicide attempt.

Bond says the piece of physical theatre has been a labour of love for the creative team and cast, the majority of whom are Indigenous and have themselves been affected by the suicide epidemic that is Australia’s great ongoing tragedy. »I really believe it is each of our own experiences which has driven the passion to tell this story, to spread awareness and to find healing for ourselves, as much as for our audience.«Brilliant writing by Ursula Yovich, who in a heartbreakingly affecting turn also plays the role of Rose, has been deftly guided by dramaturg Steve Rogers. The result is an emotional yet humorous and touching immersion in to the heart of family life and the choices we make in life and love.

The man who escaped death again and again

Director Josh Bond says the support and engagement of local elders and community gives the cast »life and strength« to tell this story.

Inherited trauma

Writer Ursula Yovich, who also plays Rose — mother to twins Evelyn and Bear — describes her character as a grounding force. She is also the only cast member who does not participate in aerial acrobatics.

Speaking to the world

Shilling believes the production could have the power to reach people in »communities, small towns, cities, states, territories — the whole country and the whole world«.

‘Someone’s gotta do it’

Characters scale and grapple with an airborne Hills Hoist during scenes of significant emotional upheaval.

During rehearsals, co-director Robins says Bond would regularly step out to take calls. He was »trying to counsel young Indigenous men and women who are actually on the brink of suicide or they’re dealing with brothers or cousins that have just taken their lives«, Robins says.

As mental health awareness is becoming a less-taboo subject, positive outcomes are becoming more common.

It is a well-known fact that men are statistically less likely to open up about their mental health problems than women.

Latest figures show that just over half of men who reported feeling very depressed said they talked to someone about it.

«Before my mental health breakdown, I had a happy relationship with my wife and three children,» he said.

Funding to support programs and initiatives that have been shown to be effective.

Our society lacks empathy, and as a consequence, a lot of people don’t open up and talk about their issues. We lack empathy for others because we are too engrossed in our own lives.

What is the solution?

• At the outset, it should be recognised as a social issue as much as a health issue.

• Secondly, the health department should create specific strategies to improve the measures that work towards improving mental health.

• Raising awareness and involving communities & influential people to motivate and help people talk about it.

• Men should be influenced and motivated to talk about mental health issues, as it is not a shameful thing.

• Clearing the myths around mental health issues as it is a serious concern.

Over the years many male celebrities have come forward and talked about the issues of mental health, and how they reached out for help, and this has encouraged and inspired men who are still suffering in silence. Every individual’s mental health varies throughout their lifetime, but letting it hamper our happy times is not a good idea. If you have decided to talk about it, be open, honest and face it. Effectively managing your lifestyle, with significant support from your loved ones, and a professional’s consultation through therapy, will help you come out of it and perform at your best. It’s the only way we can help one another in society.
