color: #000000; border-color: #ffffff;\">High&#8217;s\u00a0<\/span>and Lo-Fi&#8217;s features <strong>work<\/strong> both old and new \u2014 including excerpts from hisseries \u2014 which address <strong>mental <strong>health<\/strong><\/strong> in the African American <strong>community<\/strong> and explore the artist&#8217;s <strong>own struggles<\/strong> with <strong>mental illness<\/strong> in order to foster a broader discussion on why the <strong>issue<\/strong> of <strong>mental <strong>health<\/strong><\/strong> is often <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>taboo<\/strong><\/span><\/strong> within the culture .<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I want my parents to understand that <strong>mental <strong>health<\/strong><\/strong> is as important as physical <strong>health<\/strong> and that taking your child to a therapist\/counsellor is completely okay, and not a <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>taboo<\/strong><\/span><\/strong>.<br \/>\nSo, it is crucial for them to acknowledge, accept and normalise the concept of same-sex relations, transgender and gender fluidity.&#8221; Aradhita a mass <strong>communication<\/strong> student spoke about the <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>taboo<\/strong><\/span><\/strong> of premarital sex in Indian society.<\/p>\n<p>Talking about sex shouldn\u2019t be such a hush-hush topic in society.&#8221; Prince William shared his poor eyesight helps him overcome anxiety RELATED: Prince William and Prince Harry Were \u2018Very Unalike\u2019 and \u2018Didn\u2019t See Much of Each Other\u2019 For Years In the documentary, William opened up about his own struggle with anxiety.<\/p>\n<p>Mental illness in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/India\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">India<\/a> is still a <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>taboo<\/strong><\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Treat <strong>mental <strong>health<\/strong><\/strong> <strong>problems<\/strong> just as your physical problem and stop creating a <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>taboo<\/strong><\/span><\/strong> around <strong>mental illness<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>I fear there will be many more tragedies, unless we <strong>break<\/strong> the stigma of <strong>mental illness<\/strong> and end the idea that for a physician, seeking treatment is <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>taboo<\/strong><\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The 16-20 <strong>years<\/strong> age group is whom they find forthcoming and willing to open up about <strong>mental <strong>health<\/strong><\/strong> even as others find the subject a <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>taboo<\/strong><\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The shadow of shame Annabel Jones, HR Director at ADP UK, commented: &#8220;Mental <strong>health<\/strong> issues are still being hidden away in the workplace under a shadow of shame, with a detrimental knock-on effect on both workers and businesses.&#8221; &#8220;Despite several notable attempts to tackle the <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">taboos<\/span><\/strong>, there is still a long way to go to open up the conversation.<\/p>\n<p>Coming out in the open over youth mental issues Mental <strong>health<\/strong> is a seemingly <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>taboo<\/strong><\/span><\/strong> subject in society.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But to decide which <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">taboos<\/span><\/strong> are worth having and which ones we should dismantle, is sometimes difficult.&#8221; Krajewski, whose research has explored <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">taboos<\/span><\/strong> in relation to silence, spitting, menstruation and menopause, runs a workshop titled \u2018Taboo: <strong>health<\/strong> issues around the world\u2019, as part of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Macquarie_University\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Macquarie University<\/a>\u2019s Global Leadership Program.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-169 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/amaliafoka.com\/breaking-the-silence\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/mental-health-3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are incidents of <strong>people<\/strong> who have spat on police or hospital staff, which has never been seen as a polite thing to do of course, but whereas normally you would get a fine, now you can be incarcerated because it shows an intent to transmit a disease \u2026 so it makes this <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>taboo<\/strong><\/span><\/strong>, which is connected to a heightened sense of how important hygiene is, stronger.&#8221; Work and unemployment Asking <strong>people<\/strong> what they do for <strong>work<\/strong> is a common conversation <strong>opener<\/strong>, but Krajewski\u2019s workshop students believe this may become <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>taboo<\/strong><\/span><\/strong> as <strong>people<\/strong> lose their jobs, or are forced into completely different fields of <strong>work<\/strong> because their industry has so few opportunities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Australia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Australia<\/a> had made a good start discussing <strong>mental <strong>health<\/strong><\/strong> in the media before COVID-19, as it had with domestic violence, but this may accelerate because all of a sudden, everybody knows what it is, and even employers reach out and say that we have to look after each other and so on, which wasn\u2019t the case before so much.&#8221; In the same way, the <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>taboo<\/strong><\/span><\/strong> of loneliness could start breaking down as more <strong>people<\/strong> experience it during lockdowns and it becomes a more widely discussed social <strong>issue<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"pullquote align-right\"><p>&#8220;It\u2019s no longer <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>taboo<\/strong><\/span><\/strong>, it\u2019s real, it\u2019s there, and we\u2019ve got to deal with it.&#8221; that surrounds suicide, and the need for society to <strong>break<\/strong> it down.<\/p>\n<p>Sow Ay <strong>illustrations<\/strong> on <strong>mental <strong>health<\/strong><\/strong> &#8220;It is something that is <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>taboo<\/strong><\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It felt <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>taboo<\/strong><\/span><\/strong>, at first, to type the string of words into <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Google\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Google<\/a>: &#8220;Black woman therapist <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Toronto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Toronto<\/a>.&#8221; I sent emails to the first few therapists I found but didn\u2019t get a response.<\/p>\n<p>He was someone I thought I\u2019d see again and hurts me deep that <strong>people<\/strong>, like myself struggle everyday with Mental <strong>health<\/strong> issues, it\u2019s <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>taboo<\/strong><\/span><\/strong> and needs to be brought to the forefront, we can all start by asking someone, anyone close to you &#8216;how are you really feeling&#8217; after that the key is to listen.<\/p>\n<p>It is difficult to put a number on Pure O because it is a term used by sufferers rather than a clear clinical distinction, but it is highly likely that, given the <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>taboo<\/strong><\/span><\/strong> nature of many areas of sex and a highly anxious brain\u2019s tendency to fixate on what it &#8220;shouldn\u2019t&#8221;, many others are living a version of Cartwright\u2019s \u2013 and Marnie\u2019s \u2013 experience.<\/p>\n<p>I believe empowering our faith <strong>community<\/strong> on this topic is very important. Ms Wellman, who has 15 <strong>years<\/strong> experience in the field, said the subject is <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>taboo<\/strong><\/span><\/strong> in every church denomination.<\/p>\n<p>Talking about <strong>mental <strong>health<\/strong><\/strong> is a <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>taboo<\/strong><\/span><\/strong>, and it isn\u2019t something that is very openly discussed, thereby making it one of the most misunderstood <strong>health<\/strong> issues.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-167 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/amaliafoka.com\/breaking-the-silence\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/mental-health-4.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Conversations surrounding <strong>mental <strong>health<\/strong><\/strong> in the Black <strong>community<\/strong> are often considered <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>taboo<\/strong><\/span><\/strong>, but a yoga instructor from Baltimore is aiming to change that narrative.<\/p>\n<p>Tellingly the authors of another study \u2013 among footballers in five European leagues \u2013 suggested that <strong>mental <strong>health<\/strong><\/strong> issues might be higher compared with the rest of the population but pointedly added: &#8220;We would like to emphasise how difficult it is to gather scientific information about <strong>mental <strong>health<\/strong><\/strong> in professional <strong>football<\/strong>, since such a topic remains a kind of <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>taboo<\/strong><\/span><\/strong>.&#8221; Rida Shahzad recommended students with similar struggles to communicate with their parents, even if <strong>mental illness<\/strong> remains a <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>taboo<\/strong><\/span><\/strong> in Asian cultures.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"pullquote align-center\"><p>Later in the interview, Pink discussed <strong>mental <strong>health<\/strong><\/strong> more broadly, saying that she is hopeful that the <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>taboo<\/strong><\/span><\/strong> of it is all going away, because more and more <strong>people<\/strong> are talking about it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Props to Pink for using her platform to <strong>break<\/strong> down <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">taboos<\/span><\/strong> around <strong>mental <strong>health<\/strong><\/strong>, and for refusing to sugarcoat the fact that a lasting marriage takes <strong>work<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Member Article GEFCO UK unveils its commitment to tackle <strong>mental <strong>health<\/strong><\/strong> <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>taboo<\/strong><\/span><\/strong> GEFCO UK has announced a programme of <strong>health<\/strong> and wellbeing initiatives to support its employees.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers found that despite recent efforts to dismantle <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">taboos<\/span><\/strong> surrounding <strong>mental <strong>health<\/strong><\/strong>, 80 per <strong>cent<\/strong> of employees won\u2019t discuss problem with their line manager, while 25 per <strong>cent<\/strong> said they\u2019d be more comfortable having such conversations with a colleague.<\/p>\n<p>One of the remaining <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">taboos<\/span><\/strong> in many communities of color is the stigma around <strong>mental illness<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-167 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/amaliafoka.com\/breaking-the-silence\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/mental-health-5.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Whether it\u2019s depression or anxiety , there is a longstanding belief in these communities that such concerns are <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>taboo<\/strong><\/span><\/strong>, and their impact is the problem of &#8220;the other.&#8221;
