Even at the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/London\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">London<\/a> Tattoo Convention, which claims to be the biggest of its kind in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Europe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Europe<\/a>, Bone stands out. Once the UK\u2019s most tattooed man, he is still in charge of his eponymous <strong>studio<\/strong> in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/London\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">London<\/a> at 74 <strong>years<\/strong> of <strong>age<\/strong>. And he isn\u2019t impressed with the direction things seem to be going.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"dropcap square\" style=\"background-color: #ffffff; color: #000000; border-color: #ffffff;\">\u00abTattooing<\/span>turned into a <strong>fashion<\/strong> <strong>accessory<\/strong>, which I\u2019m all against, because tattooing is not a <strong>fashion<\/strong> <strong>accessory<\/strong>, it\u2019s a way of life,\u00bb he says. \u00abI used to be different, outrageous, but now I\u2019m normal. I\u2019ll have to think of something else!\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>And while Bone might be underestimating his power to <strong>shock<\/strong> \u2013 it\u2019s not every day you see a senior citizen with extensive <strong>body<\/strong> <strong>art<\/strong> \u2013 tattooing is becoming widespread in some <strong>countries<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In a <strong>time<\/strong> where we are working hard towards equality in all aspects of society, we appear to be behind with just one minority: <strong>people<\/strong> with <strong>tattoos<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Ruby, a second-year English student agrees that <strong>tattoos<\/strong> should not be a reason to get fired or rejected.<\/p>\n<p>Companies should encourage their employees to embrace who they are, and freely express themselves<\/p>\n<p>Face <strong>tattoos<\/strong> seem to have a particular stigma attached to them.<\/p>\n<p>How Sacred is the Saturday Job? DANICA CREAHAN WRITES\u2013 To the nearly half a million <strong>people<\/strong> who follow @studiobysol on instagram, the <strong>fact<\/strong> that most tattooing is illegal in South <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Korea\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Korea<\/a> might come as a <strong>shock<\/strong>. This <strong>studio<\/strong>, and many like it in and around Seoul, have gained so much online attention that some tourists go there simply to get inked.<\/p>\n<p>What is behind the ongoing change?<br><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-168 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/amaliafoka.com\/breaking-the-silence\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/tattoo-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\"><\/p>\n<p>Obviously, globalization is partly responsible. With Koreans being among the Top 10 groups of international travelers in 2018, there is widespread exposure to global trends. Likewise, more young foreigners are visiting and residing in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Korea\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Korea<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"pullquote align-left\">\n<p>But the real reason may be deeper, closer to home \u2013 and less about attraction and more about rebellion against social norms.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Anger on Korean skin, in <strong>ink<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Millions of Koreans in their 20s and 30s have done all the right things to live the \u00abKorean dream\u00bb\u2013 <strong>study<\/strong> hard at school, attend a good college, graduate and land a safe, steady white-collar job.<\/p>\n<p>TATTOO TABOO<\/p>\n<p>While deep down inside Han might not have changed, her arms are noticeably now <strong>ink<\/strong> free \u2013 she had the <strong>tattoos<\/strong> removed before embarking on her acting career in what appears to have been a tacit recognition of how divisive they can be for the viewing public.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-167 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/amaliafoka.com\/breaking-the-silence\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/tattoo-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\"><\/p>\n<p>HIDING IN THE WORKPLACE<\/p>\n<p>It is not only celebrities who attract negative attention in the workplace for <strong>body<\/strong> <strong>art<\/strong>. If you&#8217;ve got nice looking ones, not the sketchy black and grey things you see in jails or on football fields, <strong>people<\/strong> are less apprehensive about them.\u00abRELAXED ATTITUDES<\/p>\n<p>Research conducted by IBISWorld in 2018 found an increased social acceptance of <strong>tattoos<\/strong>. It noted a higher demand for parlour services in the past five <strong>years<\/strong>. Patrons aged between 30-49 the strongest demographic, like those seen by tattooist Lauren Winzer, who works at Hunter &amp; Fox <strong>studio<\/strong> in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sydney\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sydney<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Herself the owner of near 100 pieces of <strong>body<\/strong> <strong>art<\/strong>, Winzer has engraved careerists ranging from receptionists to surgeons; her oldest first timer, an 83-year-old German woman whose granddaughter dispelled her WW2 negative perception, and coerced her to get a matching cartoon owl.
